Overwhelmed by Bounty From Your Garden?
They say this is the time of year when you have to make sure you leave your car locked. If you don't you might come back to find someone has filled it with zucchini and tomatoes
If you're overflowing with produce and are at your wit's end you might want to look into donating it to your local food bank. You can help yourself and others at the same time.
Too Many Mortgage Rescue Scams
National Mortgage News, one of the sites the company I work for publishes, ran a good article today about the continuing mortgage scam problems. You can read it for free here: http://www.nationalmortgagenews.com/dailybriefing/2010_143/cfa-mortgage-...
What do You do When Your Health Insurance Says No?
Here's an interesting blog post about new regulations that will help when you're denied health care.
Where do you turn when your health insurance company denies you coverage for care you really need? Until now millions of Americans had nowhere to go for help or would get caught up in a bureaucratic mess of an appeals process when they were turned down by their insurance company. But, today, the Obama Administration announced new regulations as part of our historic health care reform that would give many Americans access to a fair and honest appeals process for the first time.Where do you turn when your health insurance company denies you coverage for care you really need? Free Burt's Bees Toothpaste Sample
We're big fans of Burt's Bees products at my house so I was excited to see this coupon for either a free sample of Burt's Bees toothpaste or a dollar off, your choice. Personally I like the free sample as I'm pretty picky about toothpastes. Half the time I try a new brand I can't use it and have to pass it along to another member of my family. (I don't like mint for one thing, which makes most toothpaste disgusting to me.)

Staying outdated
Sometimes staying outdated can be an excellent way to save money. I don't just mean not buying the latest phone; I mean skipping entire generations of technology.
I have a little tv that has a VHS recorder attached to it. Now nobody is releasing new videos on VHS but there are plenty of old tapes floating around. If I check the giveaway ads on places like craigslist I can find people who have switched over to and want to get rid of the tapes that are just taking up space. Sometimes you can score a huge collection for no money.
Take the ones you haven't watched and pass the rest along. And remember, you may have seen Big a hundred times but your kids or your neighbor's kids or the kids at church may not have seen it at all.
Recipes For a Family of Four for Ten Bucks Each
Here are a series of recipes from Cooking Light that should feed a family of four for ten dollars or less.
Weirdly there is only one vegetarian dish. The other 27 all have meat. Even pasta dishes that I would make without meat have bacon or some other meat in them.
If you like meat there is a nice variety to choose from with pork, shrimp, chicken and beef in abundance. There is even a dish featuring sausage. The price per serving is listed with each recipe.
