Good News for Low to Moderate Income Property Tax Payers in Maryland
I was chatting with my doctor the other day, who lives in a city I'm thinking of moving to. She mentioned that the property taxes are high, about twice as high as where I currently live. Since the houses are also quite a bit cheaper, this isn't necessarily as bad as it sounds.
Then to my surprise I discovered a program for Marylanders that freezes property taxes at an affordable level. It's based on income and should be helpful to anyone who makes sixty thousand per year or less. Called the Homeowners' Property Tax Credit Program, the program is something you have to apply for every year, but it's well worth the trouble as it can cut tax bill by a substantial amount for qualified Marylanders.
For instance a Maryland resident whose household makes 20,000 per year would pay no more than 780 dollars per year. A household that earns 30,000 would pay no more than 1,680.
